A devilish, almost villainous grin graced his lips as his eyes filled with amusement. “Oh, Gabriella, you’ve no idea,” he said. “I shouldn’t do this. I shouldn’t be here, but I can’t seem to help myself.” His words caught me off guard as his hands gripped my hips and he pushed me backwards until the brick of the wall bit into the skin of my lower back. He leaned down until his lips were dangerously close to mine. My insides quivered, and my heart leaped into my throat. For an entire week, I’d been waiting for his hands to be on me again, and now that he was right there, I knew I’d die if he didn’t touch me. Kiss me. Take me home and ravish me like he had that first night. “Adrian,” I whispered, surprised at the breathy, sultry tone of my voice. God, it’d only been a week and I was already dangerously addicted to him. His eyes gleamed as if he could read my mind, and I wondered if this has been his plan all along. To give me a taste, a perfect sneak peek at what being his would be like, and then take it away, only to keep showing up to tease me. To dangle the proverbial carrot on the string that was too high for me to get a taste or even the slightest nibble. It would suffice only for a moment, but it would be just enough to keep me from going insane. He was a deranged Pavlov and I was his little dog, salivating and panting, wanting him, that torturous bell ringing over and over again, but instead of giving me what I wanted, he kept it too far out of reach.

I'm a twenty something book junkie who is also obsessed with sports. Bengals, Buckeyes, Reds are my teams! I work for the government during the day, hang out with Air National Guard on the weekends, and have been married to my own book boyfriend for over seven years. We currently live right outside of Dayton, OH with our two cats. If I’m not writing or looking through tons of photos of hot men, all in the name of research, then you can probably find me curled up with my Kindle, ignoring the rest of the world. I love my sports almost as much as I love my books. My other obsessions include red wine, hot men, country music, and all things Grace Potter.

Instigation by Tessa Teevan is easily a 5 star read. Tessa really blew me away with her writing ability here! The storyline is quite complex and truthfully brilliant in its originality and twists. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect for these characters when I read the synopsis but I think any expectations I had were blown away. This isn’t your typical insta-love fairytale romance, this story has depth and really sucks you right in and keeps you guessing as to what is going to happen. I found myself highly invested in the world of Gabriella, Adrian and Rafe. The author gave us great backstory leading up to the preset situation Gabriella finds herself in, all which lead me to highly dislike Adrian, however, I am kind of wondering if his behavior isn’t necessarily of his own choosing but rather forced on him in some way. Rafe is quite complex in himself and thus far I am a champion for him and Brie, but I do have questions about his motives, which were kind of alluded to in the conclusion. The ending is a huge cliffy and holy crap it left me dying to know what is going to happen next. I need part two now!! I’m hooked! Tessa is definitely one of my go to authors and this book is an easy one-click.

Holding on tight against my chest, I fight through the pain as the heated flames burn. Reaching the stairwell, I jet up the stairs keeping balance as the building continues to tremble. Jumping for the top of the stairs, I land on the platform. The boy cries out as fear exudes from his face. Panic swarms my thoughts but I push them out. We are going to make it.

A loud explosion bellows from beneath us and a fiery blast erupts. The blast blows me off balance sending me straight into the wall. The boy slips from my grasp as I fly through the air slamming into the wall. The impact knocks the wind out of me as the dizziness clogs my head. Debris from the sixth floor crumbles onto the stairwell as the bannister starts to break away from its hold. I search for the boy, noticing him on the ground unconscious, still wrapped in my jacket.

Coughing profusely I hoist him back in my arms, sealing the mask back on his face. The SCBA beeps again, notifying the three-minute mark. Scanning for the hall window, a sliver of moonlight illuminates the hallway.

Hosting us off the ground, one arm holds the boy, while my other grabs hold of the radio. With a raspy voice, “Almost there Cap.”

“The ladder is waiting for you guys. Step on it!”

With careful steps, I make way to the window. In an instant, the building rumbles around us. Flames from inside the apartment melt the walls and bursts into the hallway. The boy yells out as I tighten my grip around him.

Large amounts of debris falls behind us and crashes into the ground, creating gaping holes in the floor. Violent tremors shake the wooden frames as I struggle to keep balance. A shining light blinds through the hall window as it blasts open with Carter peeking inside, “Roman!”

The sound of the cracking floor creeps around me and I look down to see it’s completely tearing apart. My heart beat stops as I lay eyes on the child and then Carter. In a split, I rip the mask off the boy and hoist him up, readying to toss him into Carter’s arms.

As the ground starts to disappear from underneath me, I use all my strength to hurl the boy, tossing him into Carter’s grasp. A smile curves along my lips as Carter catches him. And with the sight of the boy safe, the floor gives way and crumbles beneath me.

The roaring plea of Carter’s voice is the last sound I hear as I fall into oblivion.

“Hey,” he said calmly. “Why aren’t you resting?” Rick put his hands on her shoulders, gently massaging her arms.

Quinn’s eyes grew large and went to his gloved hands.

Fuck, she hates fighting. Now I know why she looks freaked out.

Rick yanked his hands away and took a step back. “I didn’t mean for you to see me fight, Quinn. I’m sorry.”

To his surprise, Quinn stepped forward, closing the distance Rick had put between them. He watched as she hesitantly lifted her arms, placing her hands on his sweat-slicked chest. Her eyes met his and his breath left in a sharp huff. The fear he had expected to see wasn’t there. No… Quinn’s eyes were dark and glistening with lust.

“I didn’t know that watching you fight would be so comforting. It makes me feel safe, and… turned on,” she murmured. Rick shivered as her hands ran down his torso, moving over each defined muscle until they were resting on either side of his waist.

“Turned on?” Rick swallowed, barely able to speak with Quinn touching him like that. She was only just about healed from the attack. He figured it would be months, if not longer before she’d be interested in pursuing anything physical.

“Yes, turned on.” Quinn’s fingers dug into Rick’s waist, her thumbs making small circles on the ‘v’ shaped ridges of his lower abs. Scorching waves of pleasure rippled down his spine, instantly making his cock come to life.

“Jesus,” he muttered softly. Using every last bit of willpower he had, Rick captured Quinn’s wrists, removing her hands from his body. “Not here, doll.” He glanced around, but none of the other fighters were looking their way. Still, he’d kill them if they saw the lust in Quinn’s eyes. That was for him, and him alone.

Quinn pouted, crossing her arms and glaring like a kid denied her favorite candy.

He couldn’t help himself. The sight of this tiny thing trying to look intimidating was funny. Rick laughed. “You’re too much, doll.” The corner of her mouth twitched up—it was just a hint of a smile, but it made Rick’s day. Quinn hadn’t smiled once since his team rescued her. Seeing some of her personality coming back flooded him with emotion.

This is the third and final installment in the Ricochet Series. I was on the edge of my seat practically the entire time I read this book. I feared for Quinn, her husband was the ultimate abuser and torturer and now that he kidnapped her I could only think the worst scenario in which he would kill her. My heart twisted for Rick and his need to find Quinn and for him to let her know just exactly what she had come to mean to him. I loved the group of secondary characters and was glad that they had all adopted Quinn as a part of their family and dedicated themselves to finding her just as much as Rick had. When Quinn and Rick reunite the fact that her ex got away hangs over them like a heavy shadow...Rick wants to seek revenge on him but Quinn begs him not to, I was worried that her asking him not to seek revenge would hurt their relationship. The ending played out exactly how I hoped it would. This is a series you will want to check out!
